We met with a member of the paramilitary group, with a focus on communication and information strategy. To boost civil resilience toward Russian propaganda, fake news and disinformation, various groups (influencers, NGOs, paramilitary) use communication apps on smartphones to post first-hand information of ongoing events including footage.

These different chat rooms, together with connect over 350, 000 members, including different paramilitary groups, civilians, army members and members of the territorial defence units.

Ukraine's government set up interactive information boards to keep civil society alert and informed, following the war annexation of Crimea and war with Russian backed separatists in Donbas and Luhansk.

After Russia announced they recognize the so-called independent republic of Donbas and Luhansk and deployed a "peacekeeping mission", eerie change of attitude in the locals - "this is it."

3. Disorient/Sever communication
4. Data mining of key unit members

I walk around Kyiv for around 3 hours. Walk from Khreshchatyk to "Zoloti vorota" a monument of Kyiv dismantled and put back together throughout its history. Stroll to St. Sophia's cathedral. She is right across St. Michael, whose walls are decorated with portraits of fallen heroes of the Ukrainian-Russian war. Over 20.000 since 2014. Then it's just 10 minutes to St. Andrew's Church, located on a hill where Andrew the Apostle foretold the future of Christianity in Slavic lands. A few minutes away from a house where Mikhail Bulgakov lived, and where he situated the plot of The White Guard, a novel set during the Ukrainian War of Independence. 

We make it by foot to the embassy. Evacuation follows. 6 hours from Kyiv. Following 70km outside of Kyiv take another 12. 

We will be spending the night in a traffic jam near Vinnytsia. Every night bombing of Ukrainian cities intensifies.

Heartbreaking scenes on the border, where it took us 35 hours to get. Father tells their sons they need to go back, so they can all be back together soon.
