Dear USET/USET SPF Family,
The Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) announced that it will hold Tribal consultation on Executive Order 14001 on a Sustainable Public Health Supply Chain that aims to improve the process for Tribal Nations, Indian Health Service (IHS) healthcare providers, Tribal Health Programs, and Urban Indian Organizations (UIOs) to request federal assistance for medical supplies from the Strategic National Stockpile. These draft recommendations are intended to facilitate access to medical countermeasures and resources that may be needed in public health emergencies.
HHS held initial consultation on this topic in 2021, following the formation of a working group led by the HHS Administration for Strategic Preparedness and Response (ASPR) in partnership with IHS, the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), and the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA). HHS is now seeking input on the draft plan for improving access to the Strategic National Stockpile.
HHS will hold Tribal Consultation on access to the Strategic National Stockpile on March 20, 2023 from 2:00 – 4:00 pm ET. Interested participants can register for the consultation here. The agency will accept written comments on this topic until April 24, 2023. Written comments may be sent to consultation@hhs.gov with the subject line “Access to Federal Medical Supplies.”
