I broke the news of my new historical fiction series recently, but I've also been playing with an old series I left unfinished. I swore I'd never write the final book of my Taylor Davis trilogy because it's my one series that has never paid for itself. Book one, Taylor Davis and the Flame of Findul won finalist honors in the 2015 kid-judged Wishing Shelf Book Award, but middle grade is a tough gig without the marketing help of, say, Scholastic. So book three got set on the proverbial shelf.
Except, my son Taylor has asked me to finish...
And four nieces and nephews swear this is my best series ever (they're all tweens)...
And I do hate, hate, hate to leave a storyline dangling...
So...this summer when my heavy new historical fiction series got a little too, well, heavy, I started fiddling with this one. I set up my hammock, did a little brainstorming, and came up with some crazy new ideas. This is my snarky, wild adventure series, with eccentric guardian angels, Hades-sprung monsters, gadgets galore, and outrageous predicaments. I had FUN writing the first few chapters.
TD3 isn't my first priority, but it has provided some much-needed levity. I'll keep picking away at it when the other gets too overwhelming. So if you have a kid who enjoyed the book one (it's free!) and book two, let them know the third one's coming, after all.
