Mosaic of Kimba’s Iconic Species -
The mosaic (above) showcases eleven native Australian species found in the Kimba region. Several of these species like the sandhill dunnart, malleefowl and chalky wattle are endangered by predation by feral cats and foxes, clearance of native habitat and/or overgrazing by overabundant kangaroos and introduced rabbits and goats.
This community artwork however illustrates a rare scene of these precious species depicted larger than life, gathering to celebrate change. Exciting, positive change brought about by passionate members of the Kimba and wider Eyre Peninsula communities who are dedicated to helping these rare plants and animals by removing their threats. Along with the invention of the Felixer: a novel automated tool to control feral cats and foxes, locals are improving management of pests, weeds and fire and fencing areas to re-establish native habitat. What better way to celebrate a brighter future for our wildlife, plants and the community than with the Felixer Fest. A community festival , a song and dance and a very unique gourmet BBQ lunch!
