Dear GHT supporters and volunteers –
We know you join us in sharing a love for the Northwoods, and also that you may already be straining your personal resources to address immediate needs in your household and community.
In case you can direct some additional resources to the situation up here, though, we’re sending a few suggestions of Northwoods efforts that are doing important work and could definitely use your help:
FORK (Feed Our Rural Kids) and the Weekend Backpack Program collaborate on feeding people in need, but also do different things within the Eagle River community. FORK aims to raise money and to educate people on food insecurity. It also helps to fill in the gaps that the Weekend Backpack Program at Prince of Peace Lutheran Church, the Northland Pines School District, and the food pantries are unable to do.
Tri-County Council for Domestic Abuse and Sexual Assault is a non-profit organization offering services for victims and their families. "We believe in a world where everyone feels safe at home," explains their website.
Please also remember to patronize your local businesses to the greatest extent possible. ___________________
The trail building we all have been doing is not in the “pressing needs” category. In fact, it's more in the good news category. As we wrote a few weeks ago, we’re finding that, with your help, we can head for prompt completion of the Conover-Phelps Trail. Click on Homestretch if you want to know more.
Also, though the River Trail is still a twinkle in everyone’s eyes, you can join us for a trail update at a Zoom meeting for Friends of the River Trail on May 12. If you want to be sure to get the Zoom invitation and link, be sure to let us know by responding to this email.
Best regards to you and your families. Stay safe -
