Nighties are back!
Yep, it's Valentine's Day coming up. We can't go out and celebrate in usual style, so how about treating yourself to something you can swan about in instead?
Nighties, along with loungewear generally, have made a comeback in recent years. Good news for these bitterly-cold Winter days. It's blowing a hooley as I write and snowing in much of the country. But we're not talking flannelette numbers here, although I do have a penchant for all things soft and snuggly, I confess. Think floral, relaxed, beautiful. What a treat!
During the last few years I have developed an appreciation for how food that naturally grows in season really does taste like it ‘fits’ the moment. Beetroot is a perfect example of this. Its earthy, almost nutty flavour makes me want to snuggle into the sofa with a big bowl of stew, a glass of…
Did you see that hilarious video that everyone went bonkers about with the Scottish grandma reading her bemused grandchild the book ‘Wonky Donkey’? She finds it much funnier than the baby does and her uncontrolled giggling is contagious. Don’t watch with a full bladder or a mouthful of soup. The baby in this video, on…
Did you know that in feng shui the colour of your purse or wallet can really make a difference? The colour can help you get more of what you want in life. I have no idea if this is true but, to be honest, I’ll be doing it anyway! Good excuse for a new purse,…
Over 70 recipes here to tempt you this Shrove Tuesday. Have them for breakfast, brunch, lunch, dinner or dessert. Choose Chinese pancakes with duck and hoisin sauce, Buckwheat galettes, Italian farinata, spicy Mexican hotcakes or Chocolate and berry-stuffed pikelets. Delicious. Eat them in bed, in your new nightie. I dare you.
Ooh, yes please. Fluffy blueberry with ricotta and yoghurt. Crab and mascarpone crepes or Coconut with mango and lime syrup. No need to be boring this year! For traditional flat pancakes with lemon and sugar, see here. And here's a gluten free version. Nom nom.
Having just moved from a 3 bed detached to a much smaller 2 bed apartment, this new book from Rebecca caught my eye. Full of tips on how to make our smaller home-spaces work much harder for us. I'm a lover of clever multi-functional furniture, so this floats my boat. Hope it does yours. Take a look.
Weleda's Skin Food moisturiser has long been a cult item, a secret behind many a model's luscious pout. And now they have a lip balm in the range. Extremely nourishing, it'll make you look plumptious even on your daily drying, windy walk.
Make the world sprout. I just love this set of coloured pencils that have a seed in the bottom. When you get down to the stub, you plant the seed and watch your flowers, herbs or veg grow. Colouring and gardening in one. Fab idea.
Can you believe that more women have a vibrator than own a dishwasher?! I read that the other day in Woman & Home, would you believe? A whole article about different vibrator types. Go them! For more on the subject from W&H, see here. I know: still a taboo subject, but it really shouldn't be, should it? I am being brave ;)
I luurve new towels. Some say that's why I became a massage therapist many years ago. I confess there may be some truth in that. This mustard, stripy beauty is one of those big-enough-to-wrap-yourself-in towels. I know it sounds daft, but a stack of really well-folded towels is so calming for me! Here's how to do it a la Martha Stewart.
We may not be able to go to galleries at the moment, but we can still enjoy some of the exhibitions. 'Visit' the Tate's new Andy Warhol retrospective via a 7 minute video and a 12 room guide. Explore the man, his career and some of his iconic images. The first Warhol exhibition at the Tate for 20 years. Enjoy.
I don't know about you, but I get somewhat bored by all these mindfulness colouring books. How about this fashion one, though, from Vogue? Uber-cool. Use your seed colouring pencils from above, of course.
I hope you enjoyed this issue and found something to make your day smiley. Have a lovely Valentine's Day, even if you're lockdown-solo this year, and enjoy your lemony or fluffy pancakes. See you next time.
