Issue 19- June 7, 2019---The Birthday Edition

Hello Friends!

Happy Friday- and, "Welcome back to "The Cre8tive Life!"- your weekly newsletter full of lifestyle tips, smiles, and cool things to check out!

This past week I visited my hometown of Kentucky- where I had the chance to catch up with my family and childhood friends, visit some of my favorite food spots, and travel down memory lane to some other places (including my elementary and middle school). This tapping back into my roots and foundation was quite an interesting way to start this week...particularly, since I have been in a deep reflection  on the marker of what today is ...

In a nutshell, this essentially means that I have been doing a lot of ruminating over my life and purpose. The format and layout of the newsletter is a wee bit different this week- so bare with me as I share all the things and feel all the feels.

*I post and share more on my Instagrams ( @thecre8tiveartisan & @e101 ), so be sure to look and subscribe there for more of my daily stories and shenanigans!

As I am now "officially" in my "ERIKA 4.0" mode, I thought that I would share 40 inspirations / thoughts/ quotes/ ponderings, or whatever have you, that I have learned, or reflected on over the past 4 decades my life (in no particular order):

  1. Progress is better than perfection.

  2. The little things are very often the BIG things...and, the best things in life aren't "things."

  3. Before saying or doing something that you might regret, ask yourself it it will make a difference within the next week.

  4. People will surprise you...in good and bad ways. Pay attention to that.

  5. "You are allowed to be both a masterpiece and a work in progress, simultaneously."- Sophia Bush

  6. The Four Agreements---by Don Miguel Ruiz (great book if you haven't read it)

  • Be impeccable with your word
  • Don't take anything personally
  • Don't make assumptions
  • Always do your best

  7. "Everyone you love won't have the emotional capacity to reciprocate. Allow that to be a lesson in holding space for both grief and gratitude."- Alex Elle

  8. The more I learn, the less I know...

  9. "People may not remember exactly what you did, or what you said. But, they will always remember how you made them feel." - Maya Angelou

10. Communication and trust is paramount in a relationship.

11. "Comparison is the thief of joy."- Theodore Roosevelt

12. Don't be afraid to stand up for yourself. If you don't, you can't expect anyone else to.

13. Self care is sooooooo important. You have to take care of you to be your best self for others. Listen to your soul and spirit to define what that looks and feels like for you.

14. Trust your gut.

15. Have the courage to life the life that is true to you, not the life that others expect of you---create your own definition of success and happiness, and work towards that.

16. When you learn the lesson, the lesson will stop showing up.

17. "Learn to differentiate between the sound of your intuition guiding you, and your traumas misleading you."- unknown

18. When grieving, allow yourself to feel all of your feelings.

19. Travel is my therapy.

20. One of the most beautiful and valuable things in the world is true friendship.

21. You don't need to be perfect to be loved.

22. "In order to be irreplaceable, one must always be different." - Coco Chanel

23. "Everyone you meet is fighting a battle you know nothing about. Be kind. Always."

24. "When someone shows you who they are, believe them the first time."- Maya Angelou

25. Be careful how you treat people. Especially, those you think may be "below" you, or can't do anything for you- the world is very small, and life can be very interesting...Be kind and courteous to everyone (unless they prove/show that they don't deserve it).

26. Be consistent in your character- you never know who is watching.

27. "Be thankful for what you have; you'll end up having more. If you concentrate on what you don't have, you will never, ever have enough."- Oprah Winfrey  (*Bonus thought to this: There is always, always, always something to be grateful for.)

28. "Never confuse what you're offered for what you're worth." - unknown

29. Quit letting who you were talk you out of who you're becoming. Life is about evolving into your best self.

30. If it costs you your peace, it's too expensive.

31. “Turn your wounds into wisdom.” - Oprah Winfrey

32. Ask yourself, "What would I do if I had no agenda?" And then, operate from that space.

33. "Your smile is your logo, your personality is your business card, how you leave others feeling after having an experience with you becomes your trademark.”- Jay Danzie

34. "Don't suppress what makes you different—it will ultimately set you apart."- Candace Nelson

35. Forgiveness is not for the other person. Forgiveness is for you. You can't allow others to take up mental space and to block you from healing and getting future blessings. (And, just because you forgive a person, doesn't mean you have to give them the same access to you and your energy/spirit.)

36. One sided expectations birth disappointment.

37. Some journeys are about becoming, and some journeys are about unbecoming.

38. What screws us up most in life is the picture in our head of how it's supposed to be.

39. “Three simple rules in life:

  • If you do not go after what you want, you'll never have it.
  • If you do not ask, the answer will always be no.
  • If you do not step forward, you will always be in the same place.”

40. "Twenty years from now you will be more disappointed by the things you didn’t do than by the ones you did do. So throw off the bowlines. Sail away from the safe harbor. Catch the trade winds in your sails. Explore. Dream. Discover." - H. Jackson Brown, Jr.'s mother

It was a bit hard to narrow the list to this- but, I feel like the above is a good synopsis of some of the main things that I hold true to my heart, and that are the key makings of who I am, and continue to work to be. Thanks for indulging me, and allowing me to be a part of your day (and life)!

This week's challenge is a little bit different...In lieu of my birthday, I would LOVE for you to send me one of your favorite pearls of life wisdom and/or a special memory that you have of me (because I am super cheesy and sentimental).

I am in the process of creating some "non-traditional" events where people can connect on a deeper level in person. And, I am still in need of a bit more feedback in my survey. If you have not done so already, please take a quick 5 minutes to fill out:

Thanks sooooooo much in advance for your time!

***Totally disregard this part of the newsletter if you have already done this.

Lastly, if you happen to have any future topic ideas, or come across any events I should know about, PLEASE feel free to send those along my way. I always LOVE discovering and learning about new things!

Have a great day, and be sure to take time to enjoy your life!

*"The Cre8tive Life" is the weekly "feel good" component of my consultancy, The Cre8tive Artisan, which is where I "make the magic happen" and curate engaging lifestyle events that help connect us humans in deeper ways. Feel free to CHECK OUT MY WEBSITE to see what I do, and let me know if there is ever anything I can do to help you out! As always, if this newsletter is "not your thing", please feel free to unsubscribe (however, I really hope you don't).
