The UK Maritime Trade Operations (UKMTO) has reported that a Panama-flagged Tanker BLUE LAGOON l (IMO: 9248447) was attacked approximately 70NM northwest of Saleef, Yemen.
The Master of the vessel reported that it was hit by two projectiles, and damage control procedures are underway. A third explosion was also reported in close proximity to the vessel.
No casualties have been reported onboard, and the vessel is proceeding to its next port of call.
Open-source reports indicate that the Tanker was struck by anti-ship ballistic missiles (ASBM), with the first hitting the Port side aft, followed by a hit to the Port side. Fire was observed onboard the vessel, and two skiffs were spotted nearby. The vessel was reportedly coming from Russia’s port of Ust-Luga on the Baltic Sea and had been broadcasting that it had Russian-origin cargo on board. Authorities are currently investigating the incident.
All vessels in the area are advised to proceed with caution and to report any suspicious activities to the UKMTO.
