Make courgette strips using a peeler. Brush them with oil and cook on a griddle (char-grill) on both sides until they begin to soften and char. Lay on a platter. Mix the parsley, anchovies and capers with a little olive oil and spoon over. Squeeze over the lemon juice and season.
Make sure you have enough magnesium and tryptophan in your diet. Both have been shown to help anxiety and mood in FM sufferers. Chicken and pumpkin seeds have useful amounts of both.
Take up yoga, tai-chi or Qi Gong. Studies show doing a regular mind-body technique with gentle movements, deep breathing and relaxation techniques can help.
Check your thyroid and adrenals. Both can be under-functioning and give very similar symptoms, including fatigue, depression, brain fog and muscle/joint pain. If adrenals are low, you won't have enough of your natural steroid, cortisol, to help bring pain and inflammation down. I see it often.
Avoid gluten and dairy, preferably grains and dairy. See my TrulyGlutenFree section of the website. Get tested with a Cyrex 3 and 4 before you give anything up as you can't test later.
Ensure your Vitamin D levels. It's a major anti-inflammatory and hormone, not 'just' a nutrient. And don't necessarily believe all is well on GP results. I look for a minimum of 120-160 nmol. See my Vitamin D factsheet for more here.
