OVERVIEW OF NETWORK'S WEBINARS
APRIL - JULY 2020

During the period April - July 2020, the Network organised 16 webinars covering various topics: RES, Energy Efficiency, Climate Change, Hydrogen, Circular Carbon Economy and more. 63 presentations delivered by high-level experts from the EU and the GCC while 2.630 persons attended the webinars.

UPCOMING EVENTS

A significant number of online events scheduled for September and October 2020 will be soon announced. Topics, among others, include: 

  • Carbon pricing for the EU and GCC;
  • Artificial Intelligence and Smart Energy Cities: Furthering EU GCC Research Cooperation;
  • Future roles of system operators in facilitating the energy transition and optimizing renewable energy utilisation;
  • Addressing the Water-Energy- Food (WEF) Nexus in the context of Climate Change and Sustainable Development.

NETWORK HIGHLIGHTS
JULY 2020

The EU GCC Clean Energy Technology Network, with the support of CENER, organised the online workshop "CSP and Desalination" on Wednesday 22 July 2020 at 11.00 CET. The online workshop reviewed current CSP Desalination technologies, technical analysis of basic Desalination systems (CSO and other technologies), and one case study using a techno-economical approach. The online workshop was moderated by Frank Wouters, Director, EU GCC Clean Energy Technology Network. Presentations were delivered by Dr. Marcelino Sánchez, Director of the Solar Thermal Energy Department, CENER and Dr. Mansour Ahmad, Associate Research Scientist in the Water Research Center, KISR

The EU GCC Clean Energy Technology Network, with the support of the Clean Energy Business Council (CEBC) organised as series of webinars entitled “Energy Efficiency: A key driver for clean energy transition”. The second webinar “Energy Efficiency in Buildings and Smart Technologies” took place on Tuesday 21 July 2020 at 12.00 CET.

The EU GCC Clean Energy Technology Network in cooperation with SABIC organised the online event “The Circular Carbon Economy: Furthering EU GCC Energy Partnership”, on Wednesday 15 July 2020 at 11.30 CET / 12.30 KSA time.
The meeting aimed to highlight circular carbon economy challenges, opportunities technologies and policies, discussing low-emissions pathways for both regions and partnerships. It engaged high level experts and representatives from the EC, EU and GCC think tanks, industry and policy institutions.

Hydrogen Committee Technical Meeting #1 – UAE Ministry of Energy & Infrastructure

Frank Wouters, Director, EU GCC Clean Energy Technology Network, was invited by the UAE Ministry of Energy & Infrastructure to participate at the online 1st Hydrogen Committee Technical Meeting. Frank Wouters delivered a presentation presenting, among others, the EU Hydrogen developments. 

Renpower Morocco Investors 2020, Online Conference
Wednesday 15 and Thursday 16 July 2020

Dr. Mustapha Taoumi, Energy Technology Expert, EU GCC Clean Energy Technology Network, participated as a speaker at the Renpower Morocco Investors 2020, Online Conference at the session “Energy Efficiency - Turning the Challenges into Opportunities” on Thursday 16 July 2020. The Future of the GCC Renewable and New Energy and the Impact of the Corona Pandemic
Sunday 5 July 2020

On 5th of July 2020, the Energy Department of the Secretariat General of the GCC organised the digital workshop "The Future of the GCC Renewable and New Energy and the Impact of the Corona Pandemic" with the participation of representatives of the GCC ministries of Electricity and Energy, and experts of the GCC Interconnection Authority (GCCIA). Frank Wouters, Director, EU GCC Clean Energy Technology Network, was invited to address the digital workshop, in which he analysed the energy transition in times of COVID 19.

New Energy Challengers (NEC)
Wednesday 1 July 2020

Frank Wouters, Director EU GCC Clean Energy Technology Network, was a jury member at the New Energy Challengers (NEC) online contest. 59 start-ups have been selected and 12 hours of pitching to more than 30 VC’s and CVC’s, jury has decided on who the Top 30 finalists will be. The final results have not been yet announced.
