Our year has been busier than ever as we continue to welcome more community groups to the TET collective.
Our small team has had the privilege of supporting 22 groups in total, all doing important mahi around protecting our unique natural environment. During this year they have collectively clocked up a staggering 9,000 hours of volunteer time. This number both heartens, and humbles me, as I think of the determination of community members, all working to create a better world for future generations and one in which our biodiversity can thrive.
As the Trust grows, we want to ensure our foundation is strong. This year we have worked as a team to articulate a set of values that can guide us into the future through the bumps in the road. These values are:
- Care for each other and the environment (Manakitanga) - We show respect, generosity and care for each other and the environment.
- Collaboration (Whanaungatanga) - We develop enduring relationships through shared experiences and a sense of common purpose. We are Treaty/Tiriti allies for Te Taiao.
- Being honourable (Ngākau Tapatahi) - We are trustworthy and transparent.
- Supporting inspirational leadership (Rangatiratanga) - We don’t ‘take over’ – instead we support and amplify community action.
- We focus on getting good work done - We will be both strategic and pragmatic so as to make a tangible difference.
With these in mind at all times, we look forward to the coming year, and, together with our team, our trustees and a wealth of community spirit we will continue to protect and restore the precious habitats and creatures that make this region so special.
