L. Linkevičius: We support Euro-Atlantic integration of North Macedonia and Albania, and call for further reform


The Minister of Foreign Affairs of Lithuania Linas Linkevičius visited Skopje, North Macedonia, and the Albanian capital of Tirana together with the Ministers of Foreign Affairs of Poland,Latvia, and the Undersecretary for European Affairs at Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Estonia.

The Foreign Ministers expressed their strong support for the EU aspirations of North Macedonia and Albania, and discussed the countries’ progress, possible practical support, the political situation in the region of the Western Balkans, met with the representatives of the academic community of Skopje and Tirana, discussed the challenges of the Euro-Atlantic integration of North Macedonia and Albania, and shared the EU accession experience of the Baltic states and Poland.

Six EU countries to join Lithuanian-led cyber force


Six European countries are signing an agreement on Wednesday to create the Lithuanian-led European Union Cyber Rapid Response Teams (CRRTs).

Lithuania, Estonia, Croatia, Poland, the Netherlands and Romania will sign the agreement memorandum in Zagreb during an informal meeting of EU defence ministers, Vita Ramanauskaitė, an adviser to Lithuanian Defence Minister Raimundas Karoblis, told BNS.

Third military technology creative camp invites engineering and cybersecurity lovers


The first hackathon this year and the third one in total, defence and technology development camp DELTA1 will take place at Juozas Vitkus Engineer Battalion of the Lithuanian Armed Forces in Kaunas. Scientists, inventors, fans of the military and experts of numerous areas will be developing innovative solutions for defence and the Armed Forces of Lithuania through the weekend on April 3–5. Monetary prizes will be awarded for the best creations. This year the focus is on military engineering, cybersecurity, communication and IT solutions.

Ex-EU commissioner Andriukaitis to become WHO's special envoy for Europe


Lithuania's former European Commissioner Vytenis Povilas Andriukaitis is about to take office as the World Health Organization's special envoy for the European region.

"I'm already involved in this work. I've made my first trips to Kazakhstan and Uzbekistan. I'll hold the position of the WHO special envoy for the European region," Andriukaitis told BNS.

The Lithuanian fintech sector has grown considerably in 2019 with a remarkable growth of 24% in terms of the overall number of companies, claims the annual Fintech Landscape in Lithuania report. Going by the same, there are 210 fintechs and 102 issued licenses that make the country the second-largest fintech hub in Europe.

Beyond the beach of doom: what made Lithuania the world champions of art?


Holidaymakers lounge on an indoor beach, stretching out on towels and slathering one another in suncream. They play sudoku, fret and sing, while around them kids run among the supine pale bodies. There are ice creams, there is lassitude and threat. We catch the sunbathers’ thoughts and anxieties in song, as the imminence of ecological doom grows ever closer.

This was Sun and Sea (Marina) at last year’s Venice Biennale, which won Lithuania the international art show’s prestigious Golden Lion. The audience looked down on the work from above and even more people queued outside, as word got round that this was the one thing in the biennale not to be missed.

First solo exhibition by Julijonas Urbonas’ Planet of People opened at Collective Edinburgh


Planet of people, the most recent project by Julijonas Urbonas, was launched, at Collective’s City Dome exhibition space in Edinburgh on the 29th of February.

The exhibition, open for visitors until the 8th of May, is shown as part of the Edinburgh Science Festival 2020, which will take place 4-19th of April. After showing at Collective, the project will be presented at the 17th Venice Architecture Biennale 2020 where Urbonas has been selected to represent Lithuania.
