Do I use reference photos?

Boy, do I ever!

One of the luxuries in this pre-COVID 19 era was that I could attend life drawing sessions and keep up with my anatomy skills drawing from the model. Now that's been taken away I find myself more and more relying on the ol' Photo Booth ap on my computer to snap a picture of me.

For example, I needed a good shot of Angelina fending for herself with the classic B-movie 'smashed bottle' weapon.

I had no idea what that would look like, so I posed myself:

It's a bit tricky hitting the 'go' button and hearing the 5 second countdown to get quickly into the pose. On more complicated poses I've turned on the 'speaking commands' feature on the computer ("COMPUTER. Take photo." -BING-).

I wish I could have captured the desperate expression in my face more in Angelina. She looks more angry or vindictive.
