VINTAGE FUNFAIR | ROLL UP, ROLL UP: ONE LAST TIME
Carters Steam Fair to spend its final weekend in Victoria Park
After touring their unique range of vintage fairground rides and vehicles around the UK for the last 45 years, the Carters family have decided that it's time for a new chapter: this weekend marks the final hurrah for the award-winning Carters Steam Fair.
The vintage funfair includes over 70 years of traditional British fairground rides and sidestalls which have been lovingly restored using traditional techniques. Visitors can enjoy a range of rides suitable for toddlers, big kids, and anyone young at heart, including their set of beautifully restored British Galloper horses dating from the 1890s, and stylish dodgem cars.
The fair is now for sale, and the Carters are looking for a new permanent home for it so as to preserve the legacy of the vintage rides for future generations.
Open daily in Victoria Park, 11am–7pm, until Monday 29 August; free entry every day.

WINE DINNER | A FAMILY AFFAIR
La Terra: Wine Dinner – Maculan Veneto, 14 September, 7.30pm
Born just after the harvest of 1977, Fausto Maculan jokes that his daughter Angela was the best thing to come out of that vintage, since it wasn't a good year for wine.
She took her first steps in the winery and proceeded to follow her father’s every move – becoming the mascot of the Maculan winery team.
Maculan Wines: Located in the small town of Breganze in the Veneto Province in Italy, Maculan is a family-owned wine estate that was established in 1947. Currently run by the third generation of Maculan family members, this is one of the few Italian wine labels that still uphold the tradition and heritage that were followed many decades ago.
The evening will begin with drinks on arrival at 7.30pm. This will be followed by a four-course dinner. Matching wines will accompany each course. £78 per person.

Curated by Daniel McCabe
As we all know, the global Covid pandemic forced a lot of us to set up office at home. Useful Photography specialises in ‘found’ or unusual photographic images, and for its latest issue the publishers researched real estate websites across Europe to collect images of that 'corner of the room' reserved for remote working (and it seems to be any room, be it the spare bedroom, kitchen, living room or whatever – they’re all here). It’s a project that reveals the future workplace to be quite different to what we imagined it to be | £26

LOOKING BACK | A BOY AND HIS DOG
Words by Andrew Swift |
Beckhampton Road Police Station |
As a follow-up to last week’s archive photo of one of Bath’s lost post offices, this week’s photo shows one of its lost police stations. According to the 1911 Bath Directory, in addition to the Central Police Station in the Orange Grove (now Brown’s Restaurant), there were police stations in Bathampton, Batheaston, Bathford, Combe Down, Larkhall, Odd Down, at Augusta Place on the Upper Bristol Road – and here, at 72 Beckhampton Road in Oldfield Park. The constable in charge was Eli Horler, and the boy standing at the door with a dog was almost certainly his son, Ernest, who was aged nine at the time of the 1911 census, which probably dates this photo to a couple of years earlier.
