The UK Maritime Trade Operations (UKMTO) has reported that a Liberian-flagged Bulk Carrier was approached and an attempted boarding was made while it was underway approximately 160NM southeast of Salalah, Oman; North of the island of Socotra.
The ship's Captain reported that a small craft approached the vessel from astern, coming within 0.3NM. The small craft, carrying seven individuals and a visible ladder, followed the Bulk Carrier for about 20 minutes. The onboard Armed Security Team (AST) fired a warning shot, causing the small craft to abort its approach and leave the area.
The incident has since been resolved and both the vessel and crew are confirmed safe.
Vessels are advised to proceed with caution and report any suspicious activities to the UKMTO.
