PARIS REINFORCE has launched its Special Issue, “Promoting sustainable transitions across the globe”, in Elsevier’s Renewable & Sustainable Energy Transition.

The Paris Agreement rests on individual countries and regions identifying stretching but feasible mitigation pathways; these must be acceptable and achievable in the eyes of a range of stakeholders in those countries, including those from civil society, governments, and businesses.

This special issue invites submissions looking at whole economy or sectoral decarbonisation pathways that help to achieve the Paris Agreement goals, with a particular focus on those pathways that have been informed by integrated assessment, energy system, macroeconomic and/or sectoral models as well as by stakeholder inputs and opinions.

There is no particular geographical focus, with instead a view to showcasing a diverse set of regional pathways to a low-carbon future, considering their particular circumstances, opportunities, and challenges. For more information, please see the call for papers here.

Submissions opened on 1st February 2022 and are expected to close on 31st August 2022.

The PARIS REINFORCE consortium is looking to present, discuss, and refine its low-carbon pathways analysis for Brazil and Canada, in two online closed-door workshops. The two workshops, tentatively scheduled for 2 and 9 May 2022 respectively, primarily aim to receive targeted feedback on national and sectoral scenario analysis already undertaken, as well as to identify potential barriers and opportunities at the national, whole-system, and specific sectoral levels, to better inform further modelled analysis. Finally, via this series of workshops, the consortium seeks to co-create views on successful policy mixes to overcome barriers and maximise opportunities in specific sectors of focus in the two countries.

Energy is a bigger story than carbon neutrality. It interconnects people and places, hopes and fears. If we want to shift towards a carbon-free economy. an honest and inclusive conversation is needed, in which considerably more groups of people are involved and represented.
