When it's hot in Provence and along the Côte d'Azur, lounging by the pool is tempting. Although it can be hard to get motivated, don't let summer slip away without a dose of culture. The museums re-opened in May with new exhibitions.
After hosting the Chanel Resort Collection (2022) runway show, Carrières de Lumières is open. Escape the heat to the cool interior of the old bauxite quarry, where Wassily Kandinsky's Odyssey of Abstraction and the "Master of Provence" Paul Cézanne's works are projected on the walls. Buy your tickets online and enjoy having plenty of space to view the exhibitions.
Take advantage of cooler temperatures for early morning hikes and shaded canal walks. Head to the Gorges du Verdon for a river walk or water sports on Lac St Croix. Go kayaking in the Camargue, on the Sorgue, or near the Pont du Gard. Head to the Southern Alps north of Nice for beautiful hiking in the Mercantour and the Vallée des Merveilles (Valley of Wonders).
