During the month of June, over 150 students participated in one of our study abroad programs. As you'll see below, we had groups all over Europe with HUG also traveling to Egypt and Israel. We have a lot to show you this month and hope that you'll continue to read all the way to the bottom, past the program summaries, to learn about some exciting study abroad news!
The week-long trips to Egypt and Israel are considered program highlights by many who attend Harding University in Greece and June brought both of those trips to this summer's HUG group. While in Egypt, the HUG group visited serval pyramids, tombs and Egyptian temples, snorkeled in the Red Sea, rode camels and took a cruise on the Nile River. In Israel, the group spent a few days in Jerusalem and visited other places such as Bethlehem, Nazareth, Capernaum and the Mount of Beatitudes. The HUG group also swam in the Sea of Galilee and floated in the Dead Sea!
Harding University in Florence students and faculty had a busy month of travel and hosting. They started the month by visiting the Casentino Valley where they saw Italian castles. Next, the group spent several days touring Rome, followed by a period of independent travel where HUF students could travel in groups wherever they wanted to within Europe. The month concluded with a trip to Naples, Pompeii and more. Throughout all of this, the HUF group hosted numerous other study abroad groups that came through Florence, such as BAT, COE and SURF. Not only did some of these groups join in HUF's tours, but they shared in worship time at the Villa, as shown in a picture below.
The Bison Athletes in Training group departed Greece on June 1st to begin the month in Rome. After several days of touring the Eternal City, BAT traveled to Florence before concluding their program in Munich, Germany. As depicted in the photos, between classes and visits to historical sites in these famous locations, students had the opportunity to stay active by touring Munich on bikes, participating in a ropes course, hiking mountains and more!
"One thing that I loved about this program was being able to experience so many different cultures throughout my time in Europe!" – Shelby Stratton
College of Business in London
The College of Business Administration in London group spent the first few days of June finishing their time in London and then moved to Paris where they would spend the next week concluding the program. During their time in Paris, COBA students toured the Louvre, the Palace of Versailles, enjoyed a picnic lunch at the Eiffel Tower and more.
Mostly Music is a study abroad program that takes students throughout Europe where they study the convergence of music, art and history. During the past month, the group visited Venice, Vienna, Salzberg, Germany, Paris and London. Whether it was touring museums, galleries, cathedrals or listening to an opera, the program helped students understand that music has had a profound impact on human history and culture.
"I enjoyed the Mostly Music trip because I got to experience so many different countries across Europe and learn how they all relate to music. I feel blessed to have been able to not only study abroad, but study music and its history while doing it." – Micah Clark
Summer Undergraduate Research in Florence
SURF is a program that allows science students the opportunity to take biochemistry classes in Florence and assist with research at a local hospital as part of their class. When the group was not in the lab, they toured Florence and other locations, such as Rome, with the HUF group.
College of Education in Scotland
The College of Education in Scotland group spent the first few days of June touring London with the COBA-London group before they parted ways with the COE students traveling to Florence where they were hosted by HUF. After several days in Florence, the COE students joined HUF on their Rome trip before concluding their program on June 13th.
Scholars Abroad is a trip that provides incoming freshmen the opportunity to travel to Greece and stay at the HUG campus for two weeks while completing a three-hour Bible course, which includes visits to amazing sites in Greece. This year's Scholars Abroad group visited Athens (Parthenon, Mars Hill and more), Corinth, Delphi, Meteora, Sounion and Thermopylae. In addition to those locations that the program typically visits each year, the group also visited the Greek island of Santorini for a few days.
