There have been multiple reports of suspicious approaches and sightings in this immediate area on the same day.
In one incident, the Master of a Tanker reported sighting three suspicious crafts moving Northeast approximately 78NM Northwest of Hodeidah, Yemen. The crafts were approximately 3NM apart and traveling at a speed of 5 knots. The Master altered the vessel's course to increase the closest point of approach (CPA) to 2NM. Subsequently, two crafts passed on the Starboard side at a distance of 1NM, and one craft passed on the Port side at a distance of 5NM. The Master confirmed that the crafts have left the area and the vessel is safe.
In another reported incident, three small boats were reportedly acting suspiciously approximately 87NM west of Saleef, Yemen. One of the vessels was identified as an Unmanned Surface Vessel (USV), while the other two were crewed with up to three persons onboard.
No injuries or damage to vessels have been reported at this time, and authorities are currently investigating the situation.
All vessels in the area are advised to proceed with caution and to report any suspicious activities to the UKMTO.
