Volunteer Swap online event
On Friday 4th February, JOIN hosted its first Volunteer Swap online event. The event brought together over 40 ‘volunteer managers' from our member organisations to learn and exchange about the Volunteer Swap programme. After general information, speakers from hosting organisations reported about their past, and current swap opportunities and participants told personal reports about their stays with different member organisations. JOIN Chairman Mark Broughton gave an outlook for the programme in 2022 and upcoming events also concerning the COVID-19 pandemic. The event closed with a Question-and-Answer session.
New Volunteer Swap opportunities
In line with the Volunteer Swap online event, our programme introduced its initial opportunities for 2022 in Germany and Sweden. Volunteers of all JOIN member organisations can already apply to provide medical assistance at the Sweden Rock Festival in June, at the European Championships in Munich in August, help at a homeless kitchen and shelter in Berlin, at the Active Senior Citizens programme in Siegburg or participate in the ambulance services in Bavaria throughout the year. Find your opportunity here.

The Netherlands: Johanniter Holiday app launched
In the last week of January, our Dutch member launched the Johanniter Holidays app. In July 2021, Johanniter Nederland received a substantial subsidy from the Dutch government to revive its volunteer work after COVID-19. This was also realised through the mobile app so that volunteers who accompany Johanniter holidays have access to all the information they need before and after the holiday. The app includes educative instruction videos, holiday stories, background information and much more. Additionally, it was designed with the idea in mind to give volunteers the opportunity to maintain contact with each other in an accessible way. The majority of Johanniter volunteers has joined after just one week and are open to this new way of working together. Read more (in Dutch) here.
