1. Don't lose your vote

With local and mayoral elections coming up on the 2nd May, a reminder that you need ID in order to vote, and we are rapidly approaching the deadline to apply for free voter ID. 

The Electoral Commission is encouraging anyone who needs it to apply before the deadline, which is 5pm on Wednesday 24th April. 

Research following last year’s elections revealed that disabled voters found it harder to show ID at the polling station. If you prefer a postal vote, you need to get your application in before 5 pm today, 17th April.

2. Fear of falling

Those of us with elderly parents are probably all too well aware that the risk of falling increases significantly with age.

One fall increases the likelihood of others, as well as fear of falling, which can be more damaging than an actual fall.

3. Wearing the stadium!

I love this story! Even though I'm not a football fan, I don't think anyone can be immune to the emotional impact of a packed stadium in full cry. 

At the weekend, deaf and hearing impaired Newcastle United fans were able to share the experience, thanks to groundbreaking shirts which use haptic technology to transform the noise of the stadium into real-time touch sensation.

6. Virtual Reality and pain relief

Pain management is a really challenging area, and many people living with pain are treated with pharmaceutical products, including habit-forming opioids.

So I was intrigued to hear about a trial involving cancer patients, which found that a 10-minute virtual reality (VR) session significantly lessened their pain. Even a day later, participants experienced sustained benefits.
