While underway in the Singapore Strait, the deck rover aboard the Singapore-flagged Bulk Carrier AOM BIANCA (IMO: 9728215) detected noise on the port side poop deck. Upon investigation with an Aldis lamp, the rover observed a perpetrator attempting to board the ship using a pole with a hook. The deck rover shouted, prompting the perpetrator to retreat to a small boat, which was then maneuvered away by an accomplice.
The vessel's general alarm was raised, and a thorough search confirmed no other perpetrators were aboard. No items were stolen, and all crew members remained safe.
The incident was reported to the Singapore Vessel Traffic Information System (VTIS), and a safety navigational broadcast was initiated. The Republic of Singapore Navy's (RSN) Maritime Security Task Force (MSTF) and Singapore Police Coast Guard (PCG) were notified.
This incident brings the total number of reported incidents in the region to at least 34 this year, with 21 of those exhibiting similar characteristics and occurring within the Singapore Strait area.
