Message From the Director

The Mercer County Fair is around the corner and before we know it, the sound of locusts will fill our evenings…this of course means that summer is winding down. We are delighted to look back on the success of this year’s Summer Reading Program. This year's celebration of bringing communities “All Together Now”  has been nothing short of extraordinary, and we owe its success to the support and participation of each and every one of our readers. The Adult Summer Reading Program continues through August, so our adult patrons can still participate and reap the benefits.

The Summer Reading Program leaves an impact on our community, and we are excited to share the numerous benefits for our participants:

  • Enrichment and Imagination: Through the joy of reading, participants of all ages come together and share the power of imagination, sparking creativity, and expanding horizons.
  • Continuous Learning: The program always plays an important role in preventing the summer slide for our young readers, ensuring that their learning journeys remain uninterrupted during the break.
  • Community Unity: All Together, we have formed close-knit communities bonded by the love of reading. Sharing our literary discoveries brings us closer and strengthens the ties that bind us.

A heartfelt thank you goes out to each and every individual who participated in this year's Summer Reading Program. Your enthusiasm and dedication to embracing the world of literature are what make our programs truly special. We hope that the stories discovered and programs attended leave a lasting impact on your hearts and minds.

We would also like to extend our deepest gratitude to the generous organizations and businesses who donated in support of our Summer Reading Program. Your contributions have made it possible for us to offer exciting incentives, prizes, and resources, enhancing the experience for all participants.

And last, but far from least, none of this would have been possible without the extraordinary efforts of our dedicated library staff. Their passion, creativity, and hard work bring the Summer Reading Program to life, making it a memorable and rewarding experience for everyone involved. We extend our sincerest appreciation to each member of our library team for their commitment to serving our community.

As our Summer Reading Programs come to a close, let us carry the love of reading in our hearts and continue exploring the fascinating world of literature. Please remember that public libraries stand as a beacon of knowledge, inclusivity, and opportunity. It is a testament to the idea that access to information and learning should be free and open to all, regardless of background, beliefs, or economic status. Here's what your public library offers:

  • Free and Equal Access: At our libraries, we firmly believe that knowledge should be a fundamental right, not a privilege. By offering free access to a vast array of materials, from books to e-resources, we aim to empower everyone in our community to pursue their educational and personal aspirations.
  • Diverse Collections: Our library takes pride in curating a diverse collection of materials that cater to the varied interests and needs of our community members. Whether you seek fiction to escape into other worlds, non-fiction to expand your horizons, or resources to improve your skills, we have it all.
  • Inclusive Services: We are dedicated to creating an inclusive and welcoming space for all. Our library offers a range of services, including assistance for differently-abled individuals, language resources for non-native speakers, and technology resources to bridge the digital divide.
  • Engaging Programs: Beyond books, our library hosts a plethora of programs for all ages. From story times for kids to workshops for adults, we aim to cultivate a sense of wonder and intellectual curiosity within our community.

As we celebrated the joys of reading with our Summer Reading Program, let us also celebrate the invaluable role our public library plays in enriching lives and strengthening the bonds that unite us as a community.

I look forward to seeing each of you when you come in to utilize what all our libraries have to offer.  Whether that be for books, technology, programs, events, the mineral collection, a COVID-19 test, a hotspot, or just a friendly face, we are here for you.  As always, if you have any suggestions, comments, or questions, please share them with me.
