Over the years, being a YouTuber or an influencer has gone from a hobby to a legitimate business opportunity. It is now even an aspirational career path for many young people.
Problem 🔍
- But with the ever-changing algorithms, it's getting really difficult to monetize
- Serious YouTubers are going to need all the help they can get to help save time, monetize well and grow their business sustainably
Opportunity 💡
- There are 230k channels with 100k+ subscribers and that's just for YouTube. I'm not sure about you but I smell opportunity
- For those who are thinking of getting a slice of the creator economy pie but don't really want to make videos for a living, boy do I have a treat for you
- Idea 1: provide agency-type services like thumbnail creation and copywriting
- Here's the play, reach out to a bunch of content creators from the West and offer them your service
- In the beginning, you should provide the service yourself and learn the ins and outs of the industry
- After you get the hang of it, hire a bunch of broke college students to do the work
- Charge content creators $10/hour and pay college students RM10/hour. That's right, this is an arbitrage opportunity
- Idea 2: Merchandising. The problem with merchandising is that you need to store the goods which lead to inventory risk
- Now, this would be a different play and it'll only make sense economically if you target the local market
- Create the Cotton Bureau for your place
- It's basically a turnkey solution for content creators, a marketplace for merch. Creators submit their designs and people can start buying the t-shirt, like immediately
- All they need to do is spread the word like crazy while you take care of the fulfilment and the customer services
- I know, I know, it sounds like a lot of work but trust me, when you're doing B2B instead of B2C, it suddenly becomes a very good business to be in
Players 🏁
You don't necessarily need to be a content creator to capitalize on the creator economy. We just gave you a couple of examples but there are still a lot of pick-and-shovel plays that you could take advantage of.
