Nature, like architecture and every other artform, can educate us in beauty

ART FROM KALPA IN ELEGANT CONVERSATION WITH MOLTENI&C OUTDOOR COLLECTION DEBUT

"Nature, like architecture and every other artform, can educate us in beauty and interiority."

Over the centuries nature - as a spectacle of wonders - inspired artists and makers.

The Italian region of Tuscany chosen by Molteni&C for setting their new Outdoor Collection's campaign is a place where such a connection is intensively felt, offering breathtaking landscapes in which to take beautiful strolls and when reconnect with oneself.

Encouraging a lifestyle en plein air, the new Outdoor Collection represents the Italian firm’s important debut in outdoor furniture. Tuscan-based KALPA Galleries is contributing to their 2023 communication campaign by providing the project a timeless selection of artworks and decorative pieces. Establishing a harmonious dialogue between art and design, architecture and nature, the decisive lines and forms of both wood and ceramic vessels by Marc Ricourt and Jojo Corväiá meet the new creations by Molteni&C’s artistic director Vincent Van Duysen, and international designers Giò Ponti, Foster+Partners, and Ron Gilad.

"Feeling embraced by Italian savoir faire and inspired by what surrounds us."

- Vincent Van Duysen

Made with natural and refined materials, the two collections Landmark and Timeout share a similar chromatic palette reflecting Mediterranean colours: while the first collection is in teak and characterised by soft and voluptuous forms, the second has a metal skeleton and features minimal and elegant lines. The selection of artworks provided by KALPA and furniture from Molteni&C’s new collections are exhibited together in the beautiful setting of a historical villa in the Tuscan area of Maremma, immersed in dense and wild woodland, within the sounds and scents of the nearby sea.

Artworks by Jojo Corväiá and Marc Ricourt in clay and wood establish a harmonious conversation with the discerning design of the outdoor furniture.

The works of the two artists chosen for the project share minimal and bold aesthetics and reflect the diversity of shapes and colours in nature. Each unique and dramatic vessel has pleasant tactile qualities, as well as featuring rough and irregular surfaces, revolving around the awareness of raw beauty.

Ricourt’s artistic process with wood draws inspiration from the vessel’s ancient utilitarian nature, while the artist Corväiá explores the concepts of freedom, intuition, and imperfection. Known for his original pieces in wood, the French turner experiments with dried firewood taken from the tree’s heart, to create highly textured rugged surfaces that heighten the sculptural aspect of his work. On the other hand, Corväiá recognizes and embraces the anomalies arising from hand-building, which adds uniqueness to each of his pieces.

This invitation to savour life in nature within the vibrant atmosphere created by Molteni&C Outdoor Collection and the KALPA art selection reflects a true art living experience.
