Regardless of where you live, July ushers in the start of school and work holidays. Happy Canada Day to our Canadian friends and July 4th to our US audience! While readers in the Southern Hemisphere enjoy a winter break, the lavender flowers in Provence are often at their peak.
If you have only seen the magnificent purple fields in photos, these images are stunning. The seemingly endless rows of lavender plants are a sensory experience complete with perfumed air and buzzing insects. However, visiting the lavender fields is so popular that some farmers have resorted to installing fences and other means to keep uninvited guests from trampling their crops. Discover recipes made with culinary lavender here.
The big festival season is underway in the South of France. Although there are no Tour de France stages in the region in 2022, sports fans can venture to Alpe d'Huez or Carcassone. But there is Formula 1! The races take place at Circuit Paul Ricard on July 22-24. If you have been converted into a race fan by "Drive to Survive" on Netflix, this mid-season race is one to watch.
July 14th is La Fête Nationale (Bastille Day), filled with festivities in Paris and around the country. The day also marks the official start of the grandes vacances in France and a reason to celebrate summer living.
