(vol 2, issue 23) Tech talk, witchcraft, and a tale of two Winslows

Hello my Precious,

I got myself a new newsletter app! What do you think? Sometimes a girl's gotta move on after giving tech support one-too-many chances.

And that pretty much sums up what I've been up to these days, learning new technology whether it's this app, Ubuntu, browsers, or my phones. Yes, I bought a new one, a Xiaomi, so that China could spy on me more easily.

Actually, my boss recommended them, and then Eric got one, and since his took such fantastic photos (which is what I want in a phone) I decided to give them a try. The thing is it's different than Samsung.

So sometimes I feel like I'm going a little crazy trying to do things between devices. I also had problems with my OS which is kind of a regular thing. I'm not sure if it's my cheap Acer or if my positive memories of Ubuntu from years ago are no longer relevant.

This coincided with watching The Social Dilemma (that I reviewed here, highly recommend) which got me thinking about more ways I can remove myself from the grip of Big Data and the Google Empire. I'm using Brave + Firefox and weaning myself off of Chrome. Next up will be replacing Gmail with maybe ProtonMail? What are you using?

Of course, I could turn to the dark arts to get things done. One of my students has been telling me that he sacrifices his little sister using witchcraft in order pass midterms and excel at English grammar. I'm not sure what I think of this yet. I feel like I should be telling him to stop, but younger siblings you know, can be annoying...

A brief interview

with Jerry Seinfeld. Even if you don't like his work, this short read had some punchy messages.

Homer Winslow was a 19th-century American painter. He's best-known for his landscapes and watercolors, but I love all his work.

Well, that's me for now. Hope you and your family are doing well and good. Happy Thanksgiving.
