Hans Dodds Kellner (PhD '72), Professor Emeritus of English at NC State University, has entered phased retirement and expects a couple more years of teaching. After 14 years at Michigan State, and 12 years at UT-Arlington, he is in his 19th year at NC State, where he has twice been elected Chair of the Faculty. He has recently published "The Sublime" in the Routledge Companion to Historical Theory (Routledge, 2021) and "Tolstoy's War and Peace: Philosophy of History Defamiliarized," in an issue of the Journal of the Philosophy of History (2021) devoted to neglected philosophers of history.
Gloria O'Toole Ulterino (BA '62) continued her studies in history in order to teach on the high school level. In 1962-63, she completed her course work for an MA in Recent American History at Georgetown University. This led to a fulfilling three-year teaching assignment at Yorktown High School in Arlington, Virginia. Some years later, upon experiencing a call to parish ministry in the Roman Catholic Church, Gloria completed two other master's degrees in theology and divinity. She has served in parishes, created programs that focus on women of faith, and written three books. Her most recent book, What Time Is It? A Deep Reading of Our Lives throughout the Liturgical Year, is due out this March from Wipf and Stock Publishers in Oregon. This book captures her long-time passions for liturgy and for raising up the stories and voices of courageous women down through the years, to the present day.
