Just in time for that end-of-summer, Labor Day beach read, this novel about two sisters dealing with the damage of their unconventional childhood spent struggling to keep up with an iconic surfer mother, during a time when women weren’t always welcome on the waves, should keep you turning those pages. I’ll let Entertainment Weekly tell you the rest: “Melanie Benjamin pairs the surf culture of the Beach Boys with the sex, drugs and rock’n’roll of Daisy Jones and the Six…Benjamin’s novel is a portrait of three women beset by shifting cultural tides and a shimmering rendering of the promises and heartbreak of Southern California.”
I’ll be out on tour for this, mainly in September, although there are a couple of events in August. See if I’ll be in your neighborhood!
