Dear TAs and RAs,
We are holding a strike vote online December 1-7, 2025.
We have been bargaining with Carleton since September, and the employer still has not responded to our September 24th proposals on improved pay and benefits.
Our bargaining team has worked hard defending current non-monetary language that protects our most vulnerable members. We largely have spent the last three months agreeing to or defending straightforward non-monetary articles that describe existing processes.
We have brought solutions to address key member concerns around rising cost of living, increasing workloads, and inadequate benefits. Carleton’s bargaining team have either not responded to or they have rejected the majority of our solutions.
Voting YES in the strike vote enables us to strike as early as January 2026 if the university does not present:
Pay raises that keep up with inflation
Improved benefits (better dental coverage, surgery leave, etc)
TA-to-Student ratios
Protections against AI taking our jobs
We will have a caucus to discuss bargaining and the strike vote on November 27 from 1-3pm in Mackenzie 4332.
Our next bargaining dates are November 20, November 26, December 4, and December 5.
A union is its members, and our bargaining team needs our support.
Tell your coworkers to VOTE YES in the strike vote Dec 1-7
Sign the TA to Student Ratio Petition and the Unpaid Labour Petition.
Come to the caucus, and bring a colleague
Email Ruva at mobcor@cupe4600.ca to sign up to do picket captain training. If we strike, we will need as many members as possible to do this training.
In solidarity, Ariel Becherer Vice-President Unit 1 CUPE 4600
