Q. What are your favorite sites/places/experiences for students?
This one is difficult, as we could point out many things we love seeing the students experience! Victoria Falls, one of the wonders of the world, would have to be near the top of this list, along with a safari excursion (Serengeti, Ngorogoro Crater, South Luangwa, Queen Elizabeth II are a few we have done over the years). Spending time at the Havens with the babies and their Auntie caregivers is a top student experience. Another highlight is introducing students to different types of teams and mission models by working alongside missionaries in East Africa such as Tanzania, Rwanda, Mozambique and others. A top experience according to Jessica is working with students in the clinic setting and seeing them gain confidence and skills throughout their time there. David would cite the Rwanda trip as one of his favorite things. We could go on but we will stop there for now!
Q. When HIZ is not in session, what are you doing?
We live in Searcy, working full-time with the College of Nursing (Jessica) and with the International Programs office (David). Being in Searcy enables us to maintain close relationships with our HIZers and support them in their transition back to their home culture. This takes on the form of providing a listening ear and helping them process as they wrestle with some of the culture clashes and discover how HIZ has helped shape their worldview moving forward.
