Dear Friend,

Happy Monday!  We're so glad you're here.

BlackHer Shero of the Week

Our BlackHer Shero of the Week is Jan Desper Peters, executive director of the Black Mental Health Alliance (BMHA).  The Congressional Black Caucus recently invited Peters to serve on its Working Group for the Black Youth Suicide and Mental Health Taskforce.  Her organization is also a regional partner for the Can We Talk? Conference and Benefit Dinner, an event hosted by Taraji P. Henson’s Boris L. Henson Foundation to raise awareness and money for mental health services in the Black community.

Check her out!

BlackHer Fact

According to the Black Women's Health Imperative, PTSD or Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder impacts women differently from men.  Also, Black people have higher rates of PTSD than whites.

PTSD is a NATURALLY occurring phenomenon.  In other words, there is nothing morally wrong with you if you have it and there are treatments available for help.

If you or someone you know are experiencing PTSD, please learn more and reach out for help!

#BlackHer2020: Baby Bonds

Imagine this...

We live in a country where your zip code DOES NOT determine your destiny and every Black baby has a REAL SHOT at achieving the American Dream.

A bold new policy proposal could get us closer to this vision.  It's called, Baby Bonds and a few 2020 presidential hopefuls are taking a look.

This week, Dominque breaks it down for us.  She explains how baby bonds - federally managed trust accounts endowed by the government and seeded with federal funding - could provide every child born in the US with the nest egg necessary to build wealth.

Take a look!

More Black than Blue: Read the Results of the Black Census

85% of Black Americans believe that low wages are the most pressing economic problem in Black communities.

That's just one of the findings from the Black Census Project, the largest survey of Black people in the US since Reconstruction!  See more below.

This landmark census provides invaluable insight into the issues of importance to Black folks and provides a roadmap for campaigns interested in engaging us as Volunteers, giVers, and Voters!
