How are you doing? Greetings from the Old City of Montevideo.
Christmas came early to Guru’Guay this year🎄 In November our website received visitor # 1,000,000.
OMGGGGGG. That’s a crazy number for a Uruguay-based website 🤯
Since then we’ve been planning this video and I’m so excited to share it with you. It warms my heart and I suspect it will yours. And you deserve a little glow 🌟 because you are one of those visitors. Thank you, thank you 🙏🙏
The video is only possible thanks to my wonderful right-hand man, Federico, or Fefo as everybody calls him, who did a great editing job. Thanks, Fefo!
The animations are by my old old friend (known him since I first landed in Uruguay in 2000), the extremely talented illustrator Matías Bervejillo. He created the gorgeous cover of the Guru’Guay Guide to Uruguay. Ask him to draw or paint anything and he can do it in any style that you want, from Picasso to hyperrealism. The animations were a gift and I am so grateful.
And the music 🎶 … is a full-on candombe🪘by Diego Janssen. Diego played in my Celtic music band (seriously!) a few years ago. He’s become one of Uruguay‘s most innovative candombe-fusion artists and he's generously given us permission to use his song Ta’ Rengo.
And huge thanks to the Guru’Guay supporters from all around the world—Pooja from Boston, ex-ambassador Joanne, travel expert Matt, ex-ambassador Ian, writer Renee, Julia from Brooklyn, Charlie the wine guy and NYC actor Chris—who gamely responded to our request for a little video.
What stars, all of you 🌟🌟🌟🌟
So… drumroll… 🥁 here’s the video!
