Woodside Nippers 2020/21 Season Guide

Age Group Roster

U14s on November 1st & 8th

Every age group is rostered on for 2 weeks during the season to help with set up and pack down. Parents and Woodside Nippers will need to arrive at 7:30am to help set up the sign-in area and beach arenas for the morning activities. We also need 3-4 parents to help with the BBQ each week. There will always be an experienced club member on hand to guide you. Our beach set up/pack down coordinator is Lewis Harrison - thanks Lewis!

The roster for the season is on page 3 of the Woodside Nippers 2020/21 Season Guide.

Nippers Swimming Proficiency - Last Chance!

All children that wish to participate in Woodside Nippers must complete a preliminary evaluation/swimming proficiency to ensure they are fit and able to meet the requirements of the Woodside Nippers/Youth Program. The club will be holding one more session at Secret Harbour State Swim between 12 - 1pm on Sunday 1st November 2020.

Please come ready to get wet and bring your bathers and goggles. Pool entry is free.

Alternatively if your child is currently undertaking swimming classes or in a swim squad they can be signed off by a qualified swim instructor. The swim proficiency witness form provides the distances/times required for each age group and can be downloaded here.

To all Nipper Parents and Youth Members

Our U7 and U10 Age Groups are at full capacity so we are calling for volunteers to step into Age Manager/Youth Age Manager or Assistant Age Manager roles, so we can welcome more Nippers into these age groups and spread the load among more helpers.

You will be supported and mentored by our team of experienced Age Managers.  We would also welcome more volunteers to help with all age groups!

To find out more about this rewarding and fun position with our Woodside Nippers program, please contact the officeThank you for your support.

Join a great team of Nipper Parents who provide essential Water Safety services every Sunday.

The NRC course is a great introduction to surf lifesaving and will qualify Nipper Parents/Guardians to perform water safety for Nipper water-based activities.

The NRC course is free for members and will cover surf awareness, recognising safe beach zones, aquatic rescues with rescue tube/contact tow, and Surf Lifesaving signals. Participants must be able to complete a 200m Ocean Swim in 6 minutes.

We need as many water safety assistants as possible to support every age group - please register via the office. More information and how to register are in the info sheet below.

**Requalifications: To maintain currency, members who hold an NRC will need to undergo an annual proficiency test at the club. You can join the scheduled NRC course or any one of the club requal sessions - see the requal schedule in the Education section of this newsletter.

Whole club looking great after Busy Bee

A huge thank you to everyone who came out to lend a hand at the Busy Bee on Sunday 18th October.

Busy Bee Coordinator and Board Captain Mark Thomas says that that the club is now ready for the season ahead after an awesome clean up from top to bottom, which would have not been possible without our members pitching in to help. "Just like any other club from football to netball, without the help of our volunteers, it’s pretty hard to keep things rolling. When we have these days, the more people involved the easier it is on everyone," said Mark.

Thank you to Kim Wade for putting on a delicious sausage sizzle and keeping all of the volunteers fed and watered!

The 2020/21 season kicked off for our U14-23 members over the weekend with the team's first outing at Perth Wake Park on Saturday. We'd love to see some photos from the day - please share your action shots to the SHSLSC Members FB Group.

There is a role for everyone

As a volunteer-run organisation, we rely on the support of our members to run our club programs and activities. There are also many ways to get involved at the club without getting in the water!

You can join a committee, help with bbqs, beach set up on Sundays, becoming a patrolling member or getting your Nipper Rescue Certificate to do water safety and helping our Admin team in the office, to name a few.  If you have an idea of how you'd like to help but are unsure of how to go about it, please email Club Captain Jess Williams.

If you would like to gain work experience in a particular area of operating a small business, volunteering at the club is a great way to do this and we can provide a reference for you too.

We need every member to take on one activity; big, small or in between to run our club to its maximum potential.
