Happy August!
Boy, it has been hot down here in Nevis, not only weather-wise, but event-wise. Culturama, similar to Carnival on other islands, is an annual 14-day celebration of our heritage, history, and food, and an acknowledgement of the struggles and triumphs that brought us to where we are.
Between the last week in July and the first week in August, Nevisians put on their best outfits and hit the town. It's a busy and fun filled couple of weeks with queen shows, poetry readings, calypso competitions, steel pan jams, food festivals, parades, and more.
My daughter captured these photos from the Culturama 48 street parade.
