Scripture Resources for July
We celebrate the Feast of St Mary Magdalene on 22nd
July.
The Church, in the East and in West has always regarded St Mary Magdalene as the first witness of the Lord’s resurrection and the first evangelist. A faithful disciple of Christ, Mary ministered to his needs after having seven devils cast out from her. She witnessed his crucifixion, was present at his burial, and was the first to see the risen Lord. She was commissioned by Christ to proclaim the good news of his resurrection to all the apostles (John 20:17-18). She was recognised as was called a 'witness of Divine Mercy' by Saint Gregory the Great and an 'apostle of the apostles' by Saint Thomas Aquinas.
Tell us, Mary: say what did you see upon the way. The tomb the Living did enclose; I saw Christ's glory as he rose!
