Présentée en première mondiale en compétition officielle à la Mostra Venise dans la section «Venice Immersive» l’an dernier, l'œuvre de Felix & Paul Studios fait sa première nord-américaine à la Place des Arts. Jim Henson’s The Storyteller: Les sept corbeaux est un livre animé qui mise sur les dernières percées de la réalité augmentée pour vous transporter au cœur d’un conte intemporel narré par l’acteur et écrivain canadien James Hyndman.

Dans ce conte enchanteur, la nuit où naît la petite Emma prend un tournant inattendu lorsque ses sept frères sont victimes d’un mauvais sort et transformés en corbeaux. Emma ignore tout du destin tragique de ses frères jusqu’à ce que, 12 ans plus tard, les rumeurs qui courent au village la poussent à affronter son père. Armée de cette vérité insoupçonnée, elle entreprend un voyage incroyable.

Hantée par la culpabilité du rôle qu’elle a joué malgré elle dans la malédiction, Emma entreprend un long voyage qui la mène à travers des champs flamboyants, un désert brûlant et un océan houleux et jusque dans l’immensité du cosmos, guidée par une boussole magique et la lueur de l’étoile du matin.

Son périple la mène finalement vers la montagne de cristal, un univers surnaturel gouverné par un seigneur sournois et habité par un crabe géant orné de cristaux. Au prix de nombreux sacrifices, la courageuse Emma parvient à rappeler à ses frères leur humanité et leur permet ainsi de reprendre leur forme originale.

Une expérience en réalité augmentée

Felix & Paul Studios se sont approprié un nouveau médium en utilisant pour la première fois la réalité augmentée dans l’une de leur production avec un appareil à vision optique transparente. Cette technologie donne vie à l’histoire lorsque vous tournez les pages. Interagissez avec le livre et voyez l’histoire se déployer devant vos yeux en vous penchant vers l’avant ou l’arrière, de gauche à droite, ou de haut en bas. L’expérience conserve ainsi la mécanique familière de la lecture d’un livre.

Premiered last year in official competition at the Venice International Film Festival in the Venice Immersive section, the experience produced by Felix & Paul Studios is making its North American debut at Place des Arts. Jim Henson’s The Storyteller: The Seven Ravens is an augmented reality (AR) storybook that draws from advancements in AR to transport you to the heart of a timeless tale narrated in French by Canadian actor and writer James Hyndman.

In this enchanting tale, the night of Emma's birth takes an unexpected turn when her seven brothers are cursed and transformed into ravens. The secret of her brothers' fate is hidden from Emma until, 12 years later, hearing the whispers of the villagers, she forces the truth from her father, thus sparking her incredible journey.

Haunted by the guilt of her inadvertent role in the curse, Emma, following a magical compass, embarks on a quest across blazing fields, a burning desert, a tempestuous ocean, and into the expanse of the cosmos, guided by the radiant Morning Star. Her path leads her to the Crystal Mountain, an otherworldly realm governed by a deceitful Lord and inhabited by a giant, crystal-clad crab.

Through courage and sacrifice, she is able to remind her brothers of their humanity, causing them to reclaim their true forms. Their liberation brings joy and reunification, and they fly home, carrying Emma to their overjoyed father. Thus, the tale ends with the family's heartwarming reunion, proving that love can overcome even the most powerful curses.

An Experience in Augmented Reality

Felix & Paul Studios have embraced a new medium by using augmented reality for the first time in one of their productions with an optical see-through device. This technology brings the story to life as you turn the pages. Interact with the book (move it forward and backwards, side to side, up and down) to explore the story as it expands before your eyes. Immerse yourself in an entirely original and immersive experience, while still retaining the familiar mechanics of turning the pages of a book.
