An attack on the Tuvalu-flagged Tanker HANA I (IMO: 9340398) has been reported, occurring roughly 46NM Southwest of Malabo, Equatorial Guinea, while the vessel was in transit to Douala, Cameroon. Initial reports indicated that pirates successfully boarded the Tanker, abducting two crew members before making their escape.
Further information has since been received by closed sources, confirming that a total of nine crew members were kidnapped.
This is the sixth incident reported in the Gulf of Guinea in recent weeks, and MDAT-GoG issued an advisory on 12 December warning of a Pirate Action Group (PAG) operating in the Gulf. Ships in the area are advised to be vigilant and report any suspicious activities.
