Writing in space

During the 1960s space race, NASA hit a problem.

Astronauts couldn’t write in space, because ordinary pens wouldn’t work in zero gravity.

So NASA went to work on the problem.   After $1.5 million of research, they finally had a state-of-the-art pen that:

  • Worked in zero gravity
  • Performed in vacuum
  • Could cope with a drastic temperature range

Legend has it that the Russian cosmonauts had the same problem, so they used a pencil!

The take home is that people over-engineer solutions to things in most industries.   In this  edition, we unveil some of our new  and easy to use equipment solutions.

Let's clean up our air!

The UK Government published its Clean Air Strategy which outlines a number of measures it will take to clean up our air including the introduction of new legislation to prohibit the sale of the most polluting fuels.

BCB International Ltd have developed the world’s first solid bio-ethanol fuel, called ‘FireDragon’.  In 2015 following extensive laboratory and field trials against other leading household firelighters, the UK’s Ministry of Defence (MoD) decided to adopt the novel ‘FireDragon’  fuel as the heating source for soldiers’ operational rations.

BCB International’s Managing Director, Andrew Howell, said: “Breathing dirty air  is harmful to our health. We welcome the Government’s Clean Air strategy which shines a spotlight on the environmental health hazards associated with traditional firelighters which can emit numerous toxic fumes. We each owe it to our environment and health to do our bit to clean up our air.

“We are encouraging the public to take a long hard look at traditional firelighters and a second look at cleaner and safer alternatives like FireDragon.’
