ANNUAL PERFORMANCE REPORT

NEW HOMES IN PUMPHERSTON...

Earlier in the summer we completed a new housing development in Pumpherston, West Lothian. These 20 homes feature a mix of cottage flats and houses, made to accommodate three and four-person households. We hope our tenants have been settling in well to their new community.

...AND LONGRIDGE!

This summer also saw the completion of another development in West Lothian. This time in Longridge, with 52 affordable new homes. An informal gathering was held to mark the occasion, with partners, members of the Cairn team and tenants coming together. A huge thanks to the tenants who came to meet us on the day and show us around their beautiful homes. Click to see more photos from the day.

SCOTTISH HOUSING DAY

It was Scottish Housing Day earlier this week. This year’s theme was ‘Homes for Life’ and we shone a light on the great work our Care & Repair service do to help individuals stay in their homes and maintain their independence.

We also interviewed Sandy, who is 101 years old and lives in our retirement court in Edinburgh, about what he thinks makes a home for life.

Did you know that you can access free and impartial advice to help you get your debt under control from several organisations within Scotland and it won’t cost you a penny? A REMINDER...

We’ve had reports from some of our tenants that a man came to their door claiming to be from the council. The tenants were told the council were taking over their property and were here to inspect it. They were reluctant to show the tenants their identification badge and only flashed it at them very quickly.

This is a reminder to be very careful about who you let into your home. Our staff and repairs contractors always carry identification and will be happy to show you it. If you are ever in doubt, particularly if it seems out of the ordinary, then please call us on 0800 990 3405. We will be happy to confirm whether the visit is legitimate or not.

WARM HOME DISCOUNT

The Warm Home Discount gives eligible households £150 towards their energy costs every year. It is typically deducted from your bill.

If you get the ‘guarantee element’ of Pension Credit, your discount should be given to you automatically and you should receive a letter between October and December

If you receive other benefits then you may qualify, but you MUST apply.

SOCIAL EVENTS AT OUR COURTS

Tenants at our courts have been keeping busy! Residents at Gilmour Court in Glenrothes have made beautiful autumn wreaths at their craft club, while tenants at Lorne Campbell Court in Campbeltown and Douglas Haig Court in Hawick have been enjoying chippy teas and get togethers.

TIPS FOR HELPING SOMEONE OPEN UP

Last week was World Suicide Prevention Day. Recent research from the Samaritans found that while 74% of people feel comfortable talking to their friends and family about mental health, only 45% of people feel able to talk about suicidal thoughts. They have shared this useful information to get the conversation started. 👇

RADIO TELESWITCH SERVICE

By 30 June 2025, the Radio Teleswitch Service (RTS) will end as it is reaching the end of its operational life. RTS is also known as Dynamic Teleswitch Service. The switch off will affect energy customers that have an RTS meter in their home and may mean that their heating and hot water supply stops functioning as normal.
