It's just a bit harder when Christmas (and New Year's Day) are on a Wednesday, amiright? Too many Mondays in a week.
The optimists among us would point out that it makes extra Fridays, too. Although you will only get one "Fridays with Pam" each week!
A First Day Hike should help to ease the transition. There are (when I checked on Thursday) 67 hikes on the DCNR Calendar so I'm pretty sure there's one close to you (or worth driving a bit extra to get to). Check them out at the website - and say hello to the Friends groups who are hosting quite a few of them!
The masthead comes from the annual Christmas crossing of the Delaware when Washington Crossing Historic Park really gets its moment. Photographer Susan correctly points out that while the re-enactors had fires to enjoy before undertaking their crossing, Washington's soldiers had no such luxury, not wanting to tip off their enemy across the river.
The park itself shared a couple of really lovely shots on their page and I felt compelled to include them as well. Christmas Eve Day was quite snowy so not unlike what General Washington and the troops would have experienced. The second photo of Bowman's Hill Tower is from a few days previous and is just the kind of eerie scene that practically guaranteed I'd be saving it to the ol' hard drive. Makes a nice jigsaw puzzle, too, so give it a click.
