Vol. 12, August 2023

International Programs has had an eventful month with many new adventures. In August, we held a new short program at HUF and sent the Harding Women's Soccer team to HUG. Additionally, we announced an upcoming art show and fundraiser during the Homecoming Weekend. Last but not least, our office moved to the new Holland-Waller building! Please keep reading for more details on these updates and to find out where HUE has been in its first week of the semester!

HUF
Theology of Beauty

In August, 25 students came to HUF for a new class on theology and beauty. From the charm of a well set table to the grandeur of the Duomo, from the glorious splendor of Michelangelo’s David to the tragic power of Donatello’s crucifix, they explored the nature of beauty and what it reveals about God.

HUG

Women's Soccer in Greece

For the first half of August, the Harding Women's Soccer team embarked on a trip to our Greece campus for practice and sightseeing. The team visited Athens, Delphi, Corinth, and Nafplion while also practicing at a soccer field situated on the coast of the Mediterranean Sea. In their free time, they also went snorkeling and attended a basketball game between Greece and Slovenia.

Although individual athletes have participated in other study abroad programs, this marks the first time an entire team and coach have experienced a study abroad program together. Good luck this season, Lady Bisons!

HUE

Harding University in Europe

On Wednesday, August 23rd, the HUE program left the US for its first destination – Iceland. During their stay, they explored the country's stunning natural attractions such as waterfalls, beaches, and glaciers. They also visited a sanctuary for beluga whales and puffins. After spending a few days in Reykjavik, the capital city, the group will move on to their next stop – England. Please come back next month to find out which seven countries they will visit in September!

Homecoming Art Show and Fundraiser

Join us in celebrating more than 40 years of studying abroad at Harding University during the Homecoming weekend! We are excited to reconnect with alumni and friends, as well as plan for the next generation. As a part of the homecoming festivities, there will be an art show featuring artwork donated by HUF director Robbie Shackelford and other friends and alumni. The proceeds from this event will fund scholarships for future students to study abroad. The art show will be held on Saturday, November 4th from 7-9 pm in the Sears Honors House. We, along with Robbie & Mona Shackelford and Silvia from HUF, are eagerly looking forward to catching up with you during the Homecoming weekend on November 2-4! See you then!

Our Office Has Moved

In mid-August, our office moved from its previous location in the Sears Honors House to the brand new Holland-Waller building between the Anthony and Wright Administration Building and Pattie Cobb Hall, where the Ganus building was located. We are in suite 104, the Swaid Institute for International Education.

Please stop by and see us sometime! Our office is open from 8 am to 5 pm, Monday through Friday. Our phone number remains the same, 501-279-4529.
