August 17th — Since January, I have been doing something special on the seventeenth day of each month. This being my birthday month, an invitation to be a featured author at IrishFest provided not just a special day but a special weekend. Lots of attendees stopped by the Literary Corner tent to meet the authors and it was a great opportunity for me to introduce potential readers to my protagonist, Brian “Brick” Kavanagh. During the festival celebrating all things Irish, there was music on several stages, stepdancing, and traditional food and drink. Even a rainbow followed an afternoon shower. When I got back home, I was surprised to find a Happy Birthday balloon and a card letting me know there was cake in the fridge and ice cream in the freezer. Was a leprechaun responsible? No, but my long-time friend, Barb, was.
September 17th — Although I have several favorite local restaurants, it’s fun to try someplace new. I met a friend for dinner at Medi, a charming Mediterranean restaurant in Lincoln Park. The food was very good, especially the baba ghanoush.
