We had all seen the cartoons that came out of the pandemic - an anthropomorphic Earth in boxing shorts, jabbing at its Covid opponent. Or the self-congratulating group of scientists celebrating the end of the pandemic - unbeknownst to them, a giant tsunami of Climate Change was steadily creeping up behind them.
Meanwhile, it seemed like we were greeted with the news of hurricanes and cyclones cropping up, almost every other week in 2020. The year gave us an apt reminder that, so much more needs to be done in terms of climate action. And the decade for Climate Action certainly is ambitious - along with achieving the SDG goals, nations have been encouraged to take prescriptive measures to offset global emission rates.
The pandemic may have prompted decision-makers to think seriously about our collective future.
