Throughout the month of July, we will look at Freedom. What does it really mean to be free? Freedom is found throughout the pages of the Bible, and is clearly centered around Christ.

In John 8:36, Jesus declared, “Therefore, if the Son makes you free, you shall be free indeed”

As believers, we enjoy many freedoms because of what Jesus has done for those of us who have placed our trust in Him…and only Him.

Because of Jesus and His death and resurrection on our behalf, we have been given:

1. Freedom from guilt. Romans 8:1 states “There is therefore now no condemnation to those who are in Christ Jesus”.
2. Freedom from shame. Romans 10:11 says “Whoever believes on Him will not be put to shame”
3. Freedom from God’s wrath 1 Thessalonians 5:9 teaches, “For God did not appoint us to wrath, but to obtain salvation through our Lord Jesus Christ”.
4. Freedom from fear of death. 2 Timothy 1:10 assures us, “But has now been revealed by the appearing of our Savior Jesus Christ, who has abolished death and brought life and immortality to light through the gospel”

To God Be The Glory for scriptures highlighting our God given freedom as Christians. As is stated so clearly in John 8:31-32 “To the Jews who had believed him, Jesus said, “If you hold to my teaching, you are really my disciples. Then you will know the truth, and the truth will set you free.”

As we continue our study of Timothy from "Great Characters of the Bible," the Youth are learning, like Timothy, the importance of building a strong faith in Christ and learning and understanding scripture at a young age. With his commitment to spreading the gospel, Timothy was able to bring so many to Christ. With 11 Youth in attendance this past Wednesday, including one of our newest members, Bro. Roman White, and a "friend" of one of our Youth, we will continue to follow Timothy's example of talking about the goodness of God's Word and encourage other Youth to join us! As we complete our study of Timothy within the next couple of weeks, we will move on to our next character, Paul, Timothy's mentor.

The Youth Ministry meets every 2nd Wednesday In-Person and every 4th Wednesday via Zoom (Meeting ID: 867 3355 4109) at 7:00 pm. Also please check your GroupMe for our weekly updates and reminders!

Welcome to the 40 Year Christians' Cooking Corner! 

Here we will feature recipes from the 40 Year Christian Group. This week's recipe was submitted by Sister Alyce Emerson from Nutrition Education Program UK Cooperative Extension Service.

Banana Pancakes

Prep time: 10 minutes

Cook time: 20 minutes

Ingredients

2 large very ripe bananas

1 cup low-fat milk

2 tablespoons packed light brown sugar

11/2 tablespoons vanilla extract

11/4 cups all-purpose flour

2 teaspoons baking powder

1/4 teaspoon salt

2 teaspoons ground cinnamon

1/4 cup chopped pecans or walnuts (optional)

Nonstick cooking spray

Optional Topping

• Nonfat light vanilla yogurt
• Peanut butter
• Sliced bananas
• Cinnamon

Directions

1. Wash hands with warm water and soap, scrubbing for at least 20 seconds.
2. Preheat a skillet or griddle on the stove over medium-low heat.
3. In a medium bowl, mash the very ripe bananas using a fork or masher. Stir in the milk, brown sugar, and vanilla extract. Mix until combined.
4. Add the flour, baking powder, salt, and cinnamon. Mix just until the batter is moistened with no dry spots remaining. Batter will be lumpy. Fold in nuts if using.
5. Spray the heated skillet or griddle with nonstick cooking spray. Drop about a 1/4 cup of the batter into sections of the pan and spread out each into a 4-inch round.
6. Cook pancakes until bubbles form on top and the edges start to brown, about 6 to 8 minutes. Flip and continue cooking until the bottoms of the pancakes are golden brown and easily release from the pan, about 3 to 4 minutes more.
7. Transfer the pancakes to a warm plate. Repeat, cooking the remaining batter.
8. To serve, stack 2 pancakes on a plate and top with desired toppings. Serve immediately.
9. Refrigerate leftovers within 2 hours.

Hope For Mental Health

Mental illness brings shame and we think Jesus is ashamed of us too, He is NOT!

Our minds love to remind us of the past. We find ourselves looking back and focusing on our mistakes. As christians , we are challenged to look to what Christ has already done. When we see our scars, we need not be cast down because Christ has taken upon Himself the hurt, shame, pain, guilt, and sin. The power of the enemy holds no power over us because of the Precious Blood of the Lamb. We are redeemed by His overcoming power. Choose to see His scars that brings us life.

FLU

Flu is a contagious respiratory illness caused by influenza viruses that infect the nose, throat, and sometimes the lungs. It can cause mild to severe illness, and at times can lead to death.

RSV

Respiratory syncytial virus (RSV) is a common, contagious virus that usually causes mild symptoms. In older adults and adults with certain underlying conditions, RSV can cause severe infections.

COVID-19

Coronavirus disease (COVID-19) is an infectious disease caused by the SARS-CoV-2 virus.

Most people infected with the virus will experience mild to moderate respiratory illness and recover without requiring special treatment. However, some will become seriously ill and require medical attention. Older people and those with underlying medical conditions like cardiovascular disease, diabetes, chronic respiratory disease, or cancer are more likely to develop serious illness. Anyone can get sick with COVID-19 and become seriously ill or die at any age.

The best way to prevent and slow down transmission is to be well informed about the disease and how the virus spreads. Protect yourself and others from infection by staying at least 1 metre apart from others, wearing a properly fitted mask, and washing your hands or using an alcohol-based rub frequently. Get vaccinated when it’s your turn and follow local guidance.

The virus can spread from an infected person’s mouth or nose in small liquid particles when they cough, sneeze, speak, sing or breathe. These particles range from larger respiratory droplets to smaller aerosols. It is important to practice respiratory etiquette, for example by coughing into a flexed elbow, and to stay home and self-isolate until you recover if you feel unwell.

Both COVID vaccines and Booster COVID vaccines are available at local pharmacies. Consult your physician regarding COVID vaccinations.
