UKMTO has received reports of a CARGO VESSEL being approached to 0.4NM by 1 fast craft closed at 25kn then maintained station keeping same course as C/V. Craft has 6 POB. AST revealed their weapons and craft changed direction to the west. Skiff is 8-12M long and 1M wide with black/grey hull. No indication of a direct threat to vessel.

At least three incidents similar to this, and in the direct vicinity, were reported in 2022, and two thus far in 2023.

UKMTO have not yet confirmed ATT whether the incident was due to piracy or militant activities.

All vessels transiting Red Sea/Gulf of Aden are advised to stay clear of the Yemeni coast, and report all attacks and suspicious sightings to local authorities, UKMTO, and IMB PRC as per IMO CIR 1334.
