The Truman show.

I'll leave it up to Wikipedia to hash out Mr. Truman's full bibliography for you. For now I want to throw light on his art style that influenced me. His work was always sturdy and reliable, great to follow along with an artist's eye.

One really old one, a post apocalyptic story Dragon Chiang, a Chinese truck driver who slings his way across Canada and the US for mainland China. US/Canada are washed up, and he's just doing his job. Of course, Mad Max style he has to keep himself armed and his cargo booby trapped. I just liked Timothy Truman's approach, Dragon Chiang looks bleak. It looks cold. He illustrates a world that I don't want to visit. That with the cruel and detached attitude of his main hero I was very much enthralled with what you can do with comics.

Bleak future to harsh past.

The other comic that I remember was a long drawn (but very interesting) 'Wilderness,' a frontier tale of a boy raised by Indians named Simon Girty. Again, Mr. Truman put on paper a very dangerous and cruel looking world where Simon is forced to survive and live by his wits. He becomes a valuable go-between with the white settlers and the Indian Nations. You get a very palpable sense of the power structure here in the early years (we're talking early 1700s) that shows the Indian Nations having much more heft and control of their part of the world.

Both books are great. I've owned them both. I've lost them both (will re-order soon!)

Have a great weekend! Get ready to see some more of Mayfield Eight on Kickstarter then!
