It may be time to go to work...
Given that the Federal Reserve is actively working to slow down the economy by raising interest rates, which means some businesses will suffer (if you’re not aware or don’t understand, check out last week’s newsletter). That, in turn, means unemployment will rise and that, in turn, means that the balance of power in the job market will start to shift back to employers. So, if you’ve been telecommuting more than your boss may like, now might be a good time to do less of that. Signs that the Federal Reserve’s efforts are already having an effect are everywhere. Case in point: yesterday’s Wall Street Journal article, More Companies Start to Rescind Job Offers.
Past performance is not indicative of future results
This is a pretty common phrase used by mutual funds and other investment companies in the prospectuses they share with potential investors. Why? Because the SEC requires it. Here’s the thing: that phrase is not just true of any particular mutual fund or other investment company. Rather, it is true of the entire stock market. And it is for that reason millions of investors may be saving way too much or way too little for retirement. This is a concept you must understand if you care about having enough money in retirement.
