To set this up...

... I've been slow on opening up my mail. There was this thick sales-speak volume on selling techniques that I promised myself I would finish before opening up these comic books. They kept piling up. I've been diligently keeping them in a neat, orderly stack. The oldest ones at the top, newer ones added to the bottom.

Looking at this stack I realized this would be the perfect sending off point to give each comic book a review. The good news is I finished the selling techniques book and am ready to start diving in to this stack! Are you ready? Let's begin!

"Continue to fight for even in the darkest of places you'll find light."

Enlightenment gets off to a strong start with a man at the depths of his depression. He's all alone in his unlit apartment at night. It's all quiet with nothing to enter his mind except his dark thoughts. There's a gun on the table. The photograph of his dead daughter. Pretty much rock bottom.

The story is extremely simple and I'm not feeling I'm within my rights to give the plot away, even from what I've written so far. What I could say is that there's 'extra dimensional' things that happen a few pages on. The man re-joins his daughter only briefly. He has to fight a demon.

The length of the story's a problem.

At 22 pages it does meet the minimum requirements in its page count, but each page has on average 3 to 4 panels, most comics have about 6 to 7.

Enlightenment covers about 50-60% of story that a typical comic would in the same number of pages. It reads extremely fast. As it is, the 3-4 panels per page set up it has works fine. I've seen a lot of comics that just are done that way, intentionally slam-bang narratives that don't expect you to dwell on anything. Yet in those comics you usually see many many more pages than this. In other words, the comic has the right 'heft' to it. There are enough pages to support the reading speed.

When Enlightenment gets more off the ground with more chapters and more story I can see this definitely a tale I would want to go back to.

That's all for now!

Every Tuesday until the stack goes away I will review the next comic coming up. As it's been a while, and I have more comics coming in the mail, it may be a few weeks before I catch up. This should be fun! Next Tuesday I'll unbox the next package. I have no idea what it is...
