SIX STRINGS ACOUSTIC'S CHILDREN’S PROGRAM

Our Mission:

Our mission at Six Strings Acoustic is to help enrich the lives of Arizona’s Special Needs Children by bringing live music to those that normally wouldn’t have the chance to experience it…but greatly deserve to.

HERE’S WHAT HAPPENED

A story told by Board Member, Janet Nearhood.

A while back I heard about Rulon International out of St. Augustine, Florida (thank you, Linda). They have been in the business for over 30 years manufacturing custom acoustical wood ceiling and wall systems. The exceptional workers at the facility volunteer their time and make Cigar Box guitars out of the scrap wood for the company to donate to non-profits. I thought, how perfect, so I contacted them, told them what we do and before long 100 guitars showed up on our doorstep. They have two strings, are tune-able and are the coolest. As you can see from the pictures, they sent us two different designs. As a special bonus the unfinished wood makes a perfect platform for an art project. We will be gifting the instruments to our students.

We are super excited and so are our teachers. Our hope is that Stuart will be able to teach them a few songs. We will be sharing pictures of the students and their guitars throughout the school year. It is just such a joy to be able to give them an instrument they can keep for their own. A million and one thanks to Tim and all the wonderful people at Rulon International. You are a real blessing.

WHEN GRASSROOTS START TO GROW

All of the schools from last year wanted us back Fall 2019, and, as it happens when the word gets out, a few new ones have asked to be in the rotation. Stuart is playing for at least 2 schools five days a week. That’s four set-ups/tear-downs plus drive time so it can make for some pretty full days. We want to continue to grow and provide music to more and more schools across the Valley. We feel we have come to the point when we must begin our search for some like-minded musicians who would want to join our team. If you or anyone you know plays an instrument and would like to play a very meaningful role in touching children’s hearts with the gift of live music please give Stuart a call at 602-796-2056.

OUR NEW BOARD MEMBERS

Mark McDowell and Ted Brown joined our Board in May. Mark and Ted are singer/songwriters for the popular local band, The Dusty Ramblers.

Mark is also a very well known Valley artist, based in Scottsdale. His drawings, paintings and fine art book publications are in major collections worldwide.

When he’s not writing music, Ted deals in real estate and remains an all around very cool guy – that everybody loves.

Misty WIlson is still our reining Queen. What an amazing asset she has been volunteering all her precious time, energy and creative genius for our Social Media, Newsletters, Videos and of course our Website design and re-design. I don’t know what we would do without her. Thank you, Misty!!

We expect our Board to continue to grow over the next few years and we are very excited about that.

THANK YOU for being a part of the Six Strings Acoustic family of friends. Your support and donations are greatly appreciated.
